The mission of ART is to explore,
in a public and educational forum, the universal themes of
humanity as experienced through the worldview of African-American
Drama, Music, Dance, and the Spoken Word.
In order to better work towards our mission,
we have committed the organization to the attainment of the
following goals. As an organization, we strive:
- To utilize the unique and specific idioms
of African, African-American, and Afro-Caribbean culture
to tell stories of importance to the community and the world.
- To provide a resource and training center
for performing artists of African descent through which
they may hone their skills.
- To provide the city of Nashville, and surrounding
communities, with a cultural venue that will serve as a
window into the hearts, souls, minds, and dreams of its
diverse African-American community.
- To expose young people to the performing
arts as an educational tool for the building and maintaining
of positive self-esteem, thereby deterring them from the
societal ills of crime, violence, drug addiction, teen pregnancy,
and sexually transmitted disease.
